A UK charity says the government’s recent race report has ignored what it calls the brutal evidence of economic inequality. The government report said institutional racism does not occur in the UK. It says ethnic minorities have suffered significantly greater economic hardship during the pandemic. A packed train has derailed inside a tunnel in eastern Taiwan, leaving at least 48 people dead. Authorities say dozens more have been injured. The government has ordered hospitals to prepare for a mass casualty event. Officials say a truck that was not parked properly was suspected of sliding into the path of the train. It was travelling from Taipei to Taitung, carrying more than 300 people. Nearly a third of them have already been evacuated. Rescue efforts are ongoing to get access to the carriages inside the tunnel. Officials say they have deformed and are hard to gain access to.
